_Order Caps

  Ordering Low ESR Capacitors

Low ESR capacitors are not too difficult to obtain, you probably wont find them at a local electronics shop or you might be lucky. The problem is to find capacitors with the right diameter. You might need 8mm 1000uf but only 10mm is available. The same goes for 2200uf for instance where you might need 10mm but only 12.5mm is available. There are a few places though where you can obtain the right sizes.

  International Suppliers

Waifong is based in Hong Kong but they have an online shop where you can order and pay with paypal. They stock Rubycon MCZ which are very good for motherboards having quite low ESR. They also stock some values of Sanyo OS-CON SEPC capacitors which are very good for vcore output and also for graphics cards, as are Rubycon MCZ. They also stock some Sanyo OS-CON SP series which although they are polymer they can be of inferior ESR to some wet electrolytic capacitors. The leads are also quite thick so they may be unsuitable for your application. Otherwise the MCZ and SEPC caps are at the correct sizes for motherboards and the service and prices offered by this shop are good. Shipping can be expensive but not really if you order a lot of caps.

Capsmod is based in Hong Kong and is run by Joe or Big Pope as he is known in the enthusiast community. He offers a wide range of Samxon caps which are made by the Man Yue factory in Hong Kong and which are gaining wide acceptance and approval from enthusiasts worldwide. We are yet to see failures that would indicate they are a poor product and they have series which offer very high performance. Payment is by Paypal and the service and prices offered are very good. Sizes are appropriate for direct replacement on motherboards or PSUs.

Digikey is a US based company that ships worldwide and is supposed to pay the import duty but some users have reported having to pay some import charges. They have a large stock. They have Panasonic FM, Panasonic FC, You may be lucky that they have Panasonic FM 1200uf 6.3 8mm in stock which would be good for vcore output replacement. Although the higher uf sizes are not available in 10mm, usually 12. They also have Nichicon HE and polymer caps such as Nichicon LF and the very nice Chemicon PSA. The easiest way to navigate is to download the capacitors section of the catalogue.

ELFA is a Swedish company that ships internationally. They stock Sanyo MV-WX capacitors which are suitable for motherboards. Again the sizes are 1 size up in diameter from the usual ones on a motherboard or PSU.

RS Components is a worldwide operation with a huge stock of electronics components which can be purchased individually. They offer Panasonic FM capacitors which are suitable for motherboards or PSU. They are a little expensive though and the sizes are generally 1 size up in diameter than those used by manufacturers. Service is good though. If you type Panasonic FM in the search box the right page will come up although curiously they do not offer these caps to all countries. International Orders will probably be shipped from the UK.

Farnell is another worldwide operation with a large stock of electronic components. Their catalogue is quite difficult to navigate. You should choose Electrical Electronic / Capacitors / Aluminium Electrolytic and then you are in the right section. They have Panasonic FM, Panasonic FC, Rubycon ZL and Nichicon HD. Again the sizes are 1 size up in diameter than those used by manufacturers. International Orders will probably be shipped from the UK.

  US and Canada Suppliers

Badcaps.net in Rolla MO offers Rubycon caps at the correct sizes for motherboard and psu replacement. Also a wide range of Samxon caps and professional recapping services if you would rather not try to repair the board yourself.

Computek Inc in Springfield MO offers caps at the correct sizes. They do not say what brands or series they offer but some people received Rubycon from them.

  Digikey (see above)

Mouser have a large catalogue of electronic components which is quite difficult to navigate. At the moment I did not see anything interesting.

Newark InOne is another large supplier but while presently looking I did not see any interesting caps there at the moment.
